I thought I was going to die, says COVID-19 survivor, Osowobi

I thought I was going to die, says COVID-19 survivor, Osowobi

The Executive Director of Stand to End Rape, Oluwaseun Osowobi, who recently recovered from coronavirus, has narrated her experience in the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.
She also gave an account of how she lost a job and a contract worth millions on Twitter after being discharged on Monday.
According to the survivor, she thought she would not survive the disease.
Osowobi was the only female among the recently discharged five patients quarantined and treated at the isolation centre for two weeks after testing positive for the coronavirus, The PUNCH reports.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed their discharge on Monday but did not give names of the survivors.
In her case, Osowobi travelled to the United Kingdom to participate in the post-Commonwealth event, which was attended by the wife of the Prime Minister of Canada, Sophie Trudeau, on March 4.
Trudeau was later confirmed positive for the virus a few days after the event. Osowobi said she also fell ill after the event and underwent the COVID-19 test.
She said, “Life finds ways of throwing lemon at me. I have struggled with coming forward, but I want to inspire hope.
“I returned to Nigeria from the UK post-Commonwealth event (I totally enjoyed) and fell ill. As a responsible person, I self-isolated.
“Days after, I tested positive for COVID-19.
“Before returning, I had planned several interviews. I was scheduled to start a fantastic consultancy job and was also expecting to sign a contract worth millions. I lost them all!!!”
The social activist clarified that she self-isolated after her UK trip, adding that she was in suspense before her results arrived.

Narrating how she was taken to the isolation centre, she said, “I had to self-isolate and also inform people I came in close contact with to get tested. My friend and I kept calling @NCDCgov (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control) to get tested? What if we didn’t persist?
“No information on my test result. At 12 am, an ambulance was at my house. I woke from sleep and was crying. I got to the isolation centre, but no one was there to receive me. I waited in the ambulance for two hours.
“The nurses eventually came out and treated me like a plague. I sat in the ambulance feeling rejected.”
She, however, regretted that there was poor data sharing mechanism among government agencies.
“No questions about how I felt. So many questions about my travel history. Same information I had provided to the NCDC and Lagos State Government during profiling. Lack of data sharing!” Osowobi added.
On how she coped in the isolation centre and her thoughts about death, she explained, “After two hours, I was taken to my space. I felt lonely, bored and disconnected from the outside world.
“A few days after, another patient came in. We bonded. Days later, patients trooped in.
“Are people observing self-isolation and social distancing?” I was so scared for Nigeria.
“The next days were tough. No appetite. The nausea, vomiting and stooling were unbearable. I’m a blood type A and #COVID19 dealt with me.
“I thought I was going to die and contemplated a succession plan for @StandtoEndRape. I was on drugs daily. Sometimes, I‘d take eight tablets in the morning, 13 tablets in the afternoon, 10 at night. My system threw everything out!
“Water, food, soap and all disgusted me. But I’d look at the wall and force myself to stay hydrated — drank ORS. I fought to live! I fought!!”
While waiting to be discharged after being told she tested negative twice, Osowobi said she was scared of being re-infected despite being a beacon of hope for others.
The activist added, “Days after, the doctors shared a piece of good news that I tested negative. I shared this news with family and friends! My blood sample was taken and I also tried to donate my plasmapheresis to help others. I hoped to be discharged.
“I waited to be discharged, but for two days, nothing happened. I was unsure of what was going on. Why haven’t I been discharged? Should I be in the same ward? Could I get reinfected? I was worried but remained calm.
“On the third day, doctors said, ‘well, we worked with the information we had of you testing negative, but one result came back positive. You’ll stay a few more days. You know we take nose, mouth and sputum samples.’
“I am still positive (flushed face)?” I asked. “No, you’re negative,” the doctor replied. The doctor apologised for the delay. I was anxious to go home but remained calm.
“I wanted to be free from this pain. I continued the medication and asked to be in a separate ward. Sadly, I remained in the same ward as all other rooms were full. My ward had people who were positive. What if I get re-infected?
“For them, I was a beacon of hope and they needed me gone to register the progress. My family and friends were becoming anxious.
“People in my ward who earlier celebrated the news of my result suddenly lost hope. ‘Why are you still here? You shouldn’t be here with us. You should be separated from us now,’ people in my ward muttered. I tried to calm them.
“Today, I am proud to inform you that I murdered COVID-19 and I have tested negative twice! I have been discharged!”
She, however, commended the health workers for their professionalism and warned youths to keep off smoking and live healthily.
The survivor added, “The nurses at IDH Yaba were fabulous. They deserve accolades for their hard work. The food was good! Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes. They protected my identity!
“We should encourage people to get tested and stop the stigma. Practise social distancing and stop the spread. NCDC and State Governments need to improve their testing capacity. Test mild/asymptomatic cases too.
“To every young person out there, please give your lungs a chance to beat this. Can I encourage you to stop smoking and live a healthy life at this time? A healthy lung is key!”

A preliminary study has found correlations between blood type and the likelihood of being hospitalised with COVID - 19 , which has killed over 30 ,00 people worldwide , according to an AFP tally.
Researchers at the Southern University of Science and Technology , Shenzhen , China , conducted the study in collaboration with other Chinese institutions .
Led by Jiao Zhao , the study examined blood group distribution among 2 ,173 individuals admitted to hospitals with COVID - 19 . The people each received care at one of three hospitals in Wuhan , China , or Shenzhen .
The researchers also compared the patients ’ blood group distributions to that of a group representative of the general population — totaling 3 ,694 people — in Wuhan .
Data from the researchers showed that blood group A had a significantly higher risk for COVID -19 , compared with non -A blood groups, whereas blood group O had a significantly lower risk for the infectious disease compared with non -O blood groups.
According to Zhao , “ people with blood group A have a significantly higher risk for acquiring COVID -19 , compared with non -A blood groups; whereas blood group O has a significantly lower risk for the infection , compared with non -O blood groups.”

Although , the study is yet to be published in a peer - reviewed journal and other experts have not yet had a chance to assess the researchers ’ methodology and findings , Head of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital , Idi -Araba , Prof. Sulaiman Akanmu , said , “ It ’s not impossible , such a thing may happen .”
Speaking with PUNCH HealthWise , Prof. Akanmu said the study was new to him , adding that blood group type had been associated with varieties of disease states.
“ It is known that a particular disease is more commonly found in a particular blood group type or that a blood group type is more protective of development of a particular disease , but that it is related to COVID - 19 is new to me .
“ If it is true , it will not be difficult to explain. ”
Continuing , he said, “ For example , if an agent is going to attach to a cell , then that particular cell must have on its surface membrane a receptor that the infectious agents could attach to.

Corona Virus To End May 29th, Says Indian Boy Who Correctly Predicted It's Start, 8 Months Ago

On August 22nd 2019, on his YouTube channel conscience, 14 year old Abighya Anand, predicted that the world will enter into a tough phase starting November 2019 to April 2020.

This 6 month period will see spread of a global disease and rise in global tensions. At the height of it all will be March 31st which will mark the climax of this state, with the world looking tense.

However on May 29th as the earth orbits away from this tough period, it will mark the decline of the global disease as spread of it will be more manageable.

Anand, is a famous Indian protĂ©gĂ© who has been featured on numerous magazines. Notably in 2013 he was interviewed on the Indian Times where his astrological skills were put to test. And to the amazement of many, his knowledge on astrology was considered child’s play.

He has rightly by use of astrology predicted prices of gold and silver and other Indian related activities.

On the corona virus, it is to be noted that it is a global war. A war between the virus and humanity, and whether governments are involved is your guess. But one thing is clear, it is war nonetheless. This he insists.

Why Anand considers March 31st to be the climax is based on astrology. Where he cites that Mars will conjunct with Saturn and Jupiter while the Moon and Rahu, will also conjunct. Rahus is the north node of the Moon.

This is a rare occurrence since in astrology Mars Saturn and Jupiter are considered the most powerful planets due to the fact that they all are on the outer ring of the solar system. Hence when they are all aligned, their power over earth is enormous.

While as for the Moon and Rahu conjunction, it is also very powerful since the Moon is considered the planet of watery spreading. While as for Rahu it is considered the communicator planet.

In terms of watery spreading he notes that, the coughing and sneezing will happen mostly at this time thus spreading the disease further. It is thus vital to observe social distancing during this time. That is March 31st and April 1st.

As for May 29th according to his astrological understanding the axis will be broken, and thus the planetary arrangement more favorable for a cure.

From this point on cases of reduction of the disease will be reported. As for the economy, the slowdown is predicted to end in November of 2021

Coronavirus: Print more naira notes, Tinubu tells FG

Coronavirus: Print more naira notes, Tinubu tells FG

Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja
All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu, has asked the Federal Government to print more naira notes in order to save the economy from collapse even as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to bite harder.
Tinubu said this in a statement he wrote in commemoration of his 68th birthday.
The former governor of Lagos State said the United States Federal Reserve had printed more dollars in order to boost the economy.
He said Nigeria could also do the same.
Tinubu added, “Already, the price of oil has fallen to less than 30 dollars a barrel. This will bring a dollar shortfall. This does not, however, necessitate a corresponding shortfall in public sector naira expenditures.
“The US controls dollar issuance. We control naira issuance as is our sovereign right. Just as America has used its sovereign right to issue its currency to stave economic disaster, so too may Nigeria issue naira for the same purpose.”

COVID-19: Get ready for evacuation flights, US tells citizens in Nigeria

Kayode Oyero
US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria says it is preparing emergency flights to evacuate its citizens in Nigeria despite airport closures, The PUNCH reports.
This is not unconnected to the exploding coronavirus cases in Nigeria which stands at 81 on Saturday morning according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
The Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority had closed all international airports in the country including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja to prevent further importation of COVID-19.
But the consulate on Friday in a notice entitled ‘Health Alert: US Mission in Nigeria’ advised American citizens to be in Abuja and Lagos “as soon as possible” to join the arranged flights back to the US.
It advised nationals not in Abuja and Lagos to work with local airlines to make travel arrangements while flights are still available.
It stated, “At present, there are no scheduled flights to the United States.  However, we are actively exploring options and attempting to secure flights despite global airport closures and travel restrictions.
“We will email US citizens immediately once we have flight details, routes, and costs.
“US citizens who are considering returning to the United States are urged to travel to Abuja or Lagos as soon as possible.
“The Embassy and Consulate are unable to assist with lodging, food, or transportation costs, and some hotels have closed or are closing.
“To disseminate important information and alerts for US Citizens including possible evacuation flights, the State Department uses the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program as its primary messaging system. US Citizens in Nigeria who want to be informed about emergency flights and receive other alerts should enroll in STEP immediately.”
As of Saturday morning, according to World Health Organisation statistics, the US has 68,334 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 991 attendant deaths.
